COVENANTS COMMITTEE
Well, it's a New Year. .. time to get ready for Spring! The
Covenants Committee has been busy with new project requests. Project
requests are required for anything that will change the outside
appearance of your home. This includes tree removal and painting
projects as well as additions. Since the committee meets the third
Monday of each month, please try and get your project requests in
before then, so we will have time to review them. If you require
earlier approval due to contractor requirements, we will do our best
to work with you.
Please, let's all take a look at our yards and use the good weather
to tidy up. This means removing trash containers from view, cleaning
up yard debris and anything that mars the beauty of our neighborhood.
The Springlakes covenants require that your air conditioning units
maintain low visibility from the street. Please take time to plant
shrubs, etc. which will help hide the units and preserve Springlakes
curb appeal. '
All of us are aware that the Covenants protect our property values,
as well as keep our neighborhood a beautiful place in which to live.
The Covenants Committee welcomes and appreciates your assistance in
this effort. We need participation and representation from all
areas of Springlakes. Please consider becoming involved, if you cannot
attend the monthly meeting, call the association office and leave your
name and phone number. We will contact you as soon as possible.

PRESIDENTS NOTE
The New Year started off with a worldwide celebration that greeted
us at our doorsteps! We saw many countries around the world joining
together in a common celebration of the new millennium that has made
the world much smaller and closer. We also have a large
community of over 650 residents of diverse backgrounds that have a
common bond as Springlakes homeowners and residents. As your new
Springlakes Association Board and President, we plan to build on the
work of the previous Board and Committee Chairman to build a safer,
more inviting stable and close knit community.
I have lived in the neighborhood for almost 12 years and have been
on the Springlakes Association Board of Directors and Chairman of the
Special Projects Committee for 8 years. Throughout the years, I have
seen our community grow in numbers, and have seen the value of our
properties remain stable while other communities have lost ground.
We can be proud of slot in our community that has helped us
maintain and enhance the value of our properties! We have strong
covenants, well kept homes and yards, an excellent crimewatch program,
community activities, swimming pool, playground, tennis courts,
clubhouse and lake access for recreation.
I would like to express my appreciation to Ray Keeler for his
excellent leadership as the outgoing President and to Brigitte Makekau
for her excellent work as Crimewatch Chairman. I would also like to
welcome our new Committee Chairman for Special Projects, William and
Karen Lombardy for Crimewatch.
Our goal for this year is to continue building our neighborhood to
make it even stronger! Some of the major activities planned this year
include expanding the Virtual Volunteer for Crimewatch notification to
all residents, creating a Springlakes website for member access to
improve community communications, continue to expand our community
activities, maintain a strong covenants program, improve our entrance
and area landscaping, prepare for lake dredging next year, implement a
phase I plan for the common grounds on Knollcrest Circle, and evaluate
options to purchase additional common ground for tennis court or
recreation areas.
I would very much appreciate your support as we continue to work to
make this one of the very best communities in the CSRA!
Please email me if you would like to help us with our community
activities.

CRIMEWATCH
We have had several reports of break-ins to vehicles. If possible,
park your vehicles in your driveway end close to your home. We
recommend that you use outside motion sensor lights and do not keep
valuables in your vehicles. As always, please notify the Columbia
County Sheriffs Department if you notice a suspicious vehicle or
persons at 541-2800. The Virtual Volunteer has been used by Crimewatch
to communicate to Block Leaders. We understand that the Virtual
Volunteer will, be offering a new system that will enable us to
communicate to all residents. We plant to put this new system in place
over the next several months. We will be using the Virtual Volunteer
to communicate Crimewatch as well as important Springlakes
information.
In order for this program to be effective, we ask that when you
notice a new resident moving into our neighborhood, call our
Springlakes Association Manager to report the address. The address
will be passed along to our Welcome Committee so the new resident can
be properly greeted and their information obtained for our Directory
and Crimewatch program. Until we look at the new system completely,
only then will we determine if we need Block Leaders and how they can
work with the new system. Once the system is available and put into
place, we will explain how it will work in the newsletter and
directory. However, if you have an unlisted telephone number and would
like to participate in Crimewatch and Springlakes notifications, you
need to contact the Springlakes Association Manager and give Sue your
information. Please let her know if you want to be in the Virtual
Volunteer only or can we publish your telephone number in the
directory.

SPRINGLAKES POOL NEWS
Start working on your backstroke and stacking up on the suntan
lotion. The 2000 Springlakes pool season is approaching fast. The pool
committee is working hard on preparations for another fantastic summer
of swimming.
Tag Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 13th from 10 am until 12
noon at the clubhouse, rain or shine. Pool tags for the season will be
distributed to all members whom have prepaid their dues end
Springlakes assessments or anyone who has payment in hand. Signups for
the Stingrays swimteam and swim lessons will also be available during
Tag Day.
All non-members interested in joining the pool for the 2000 swim
season are invited to the Pool Open House, also May 13th. The pool
will be open from10 am until 8pm. This will give all members and
guests a chance to visit the pool and meet the new life guarding staff.
All Springlakes children are invited to join the Stingray swimteam.
This year’s team will have a new coach and will be swimming in a new
division. Kathleen Greely, a resident of the neighborhood, will be the
new coach for Springlakes. Kathleen started and coaches Westminster's
school swimteam and has taught swim lessons at our pool for the past
two years. This summer the Stingrays will compete in Division II.
Their competition will be Jones Creek, Westlake, Brynwood, Woodbridge
and Petersburg. Springlakes will also be hosting the 12th annual
Springlakes Relay Meet and the CSRA B Meet. The swimteam season ends
on July 25th with Stingray Mania, the annual swimteam pool party to
celebrate the season.
Your pool committee for 2000 is:
- Dee Beaird - Chairperson
- Jeanne
Keeler - Membership
- Don Rogers Treasurer
- Cinda Moody - Secretary
- Sue Giovino - Social
Swimteam Coordinator position - currently vacant. The committee is actively seeking a person to fill
this very important position prior to Tag Day. The Swimteam
Coordinator's position is crucial for a successful swimteam campaign.
Anyone interested in helping with this is encouraged to contact a
committee member.
We are excited about the start of another summer pool season.
